Pharaoh's two dreams — cows, then grain — complete a doubling pattern that's been building since Joseph's own two dreams opened the story (37:5-9): sheaves and stars there, cows and grain here, with the two prison officials' two dreams (ch. 40) bridging the two. Every major turn in this opening movement comes wrapped in a matched pair, training the reader to trust that whatever repeats twice in this story is already settled.
