This ordination narrows what Eden originally gave every human - a royal-priestly calling, lost at the exile from the garden - down to one family, one tribe, one specific ritual. Later tradition reads this narrowing as temporary: the calling eventually widens back out, first to Israel as a whole "kingdom of priests," and further still in later reflection on what that calling was always meant to become.
